The reality of being a mom of littles is that the job never, ever takes a break. Today I had the privilege of looking after my second son as he came down with a stomach bug. Although this may not sound very festive, let me assure you that it was a great gift. At the beginning of this month, on Judah's birthday, we lost a tiny, beloved child that most of the world did not even know about yet. It was a very bittersweet day as we celebrated seven years of our big boy, and at the same time mourned the loss of our tiniest family member. Today, although I did grumble at times, and there were certain aspects I could have done without, I was so immeasurably thankful to be a mom to the children I have on this earth. There's that quote by Corrie Ten Boom that says "Hold everything in your hands lightly, otherwise it hurts when God pries your fingers open." That couldn't be truer, especially when it comes to my children. They are precious gifts, and I am a steward of that gift. I'm so thankful that I believe and trust in a sovereign God who knows my pain before it's felt, and who gives good gifts to his children. Praise the Lord for his grace to me these 28 years!

If there is one word to describe the life of this three-year-old girl, it's DRAMA. She was very upset because the boys had a chance to make some money and she didn't. But, a promise of a different money making scheme and a hug from her two favourite stuffies, and she was all smiles once more.

The way the sun is hitting and moving through our house is proof positive that winter is at its end.

I had an EPIC custard pie fail this afternoon, and now I'm left with a disastrous kitchen, a litre of custard, and a cat in a bowl.

How to make Benjamin laugh uncontrollably: purposely mishear what he says, replacing a word with something ridiculous. Insist that he said the ridiculous thing. Continue as long as you like - it will never stop being funny, ever.

The weather is crazy and it sounds like the roof is going to rip off our house and there are paper airplanes everywhere!

I walked around the corner to find all three of them crammed into that little chair in the corner, enjoying a book together. I give these days permission to last forever.

I didn't give them valentines or chocolates, but I did give them Battleship, and I'm pretty sure that made it the best Valentine's Day ever.

Merely two hours out in the cold, winter sun, and Benjamin's freckles are coming out like gangbusters.

We spent a couple hours making Valentine's gifts for all of the kiddos' little church friends today. Judah and Ben made crossbows out of bent popsicle sticks, elastic bands, and Nerf darts for the boys, and Lydia made personalized necklaces for the girls.

Joey's idea of relaxing on his day off involves exploring creek beds and making homemade strudels. I like this guy!
