backyard adventures

Today was kind of a rough day. Tension was high in the house. The boys weren't getting along. No one was very happy.

And then we had the idea to have a good ol' wiener roast in our back yard.

It lifted everyone's spirits... except Benjamin's.

At first he was all like, "I don't like this. It's cold out here. I'm hungry. Where's Buttercup?"

And then he actually tried the beverage I placed before him. Hot chocolate! Sweet nectar of life!

It was an acceptable offering.

Judah was mesmerized by the fire. We tried the "here's a line in the snow. Don't cross it!" thing, but he really wasn't too keen on it. After he had eaten the hot dog out of his bun, he ran off to play with some rusty Tonka trucks the previous home owners left behind.

It was so good to get out of the house, so good to enjoy the outdoors, so good to spend time together as a family. Joey is a country boy at heart. I think he needed to burn things just to keep his sanity in this city-town.

I think we'll be doing this more often.
