this is what I believe

This is what I believe: I am a great sinner.  Every thought of mine is only evil continually.  Though I try to please my God with the things I do and the accomplishments I tack to my name, my righteousness remains as filthy rags.  I've broken the Law, and I'm worthy of death.

This is what I believe: Christ is a great Saviour.  He lived a perfect life on earth; even though he was fully man, he was also fully God.  He brought absolute glory to God in everything he did and said - He did nothing of his own accord, but everything was out of obedience to his Father.  Jesus kept the whole Law, and He did not deserve death.

This is what I believe: Jesus Christ died in place of my sins.  His righteousness has been transferred to my account.  My righteousness remains filthy rags, but His blood covers me.  He took the punishment for my sin (death) so that salvation would have nothing to do with anything in me.  I will never become perfect, but Christ's wounds have made me whole.

My faith has found a resting place - not in device nor creed:
I trust the Ever living One - His wounds for me shall plead.
I need no other argument, I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves - this ends my fear and doubt
A sinful soul I come to Him - He'll never cast me out.
I need no other argument, I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

My heart is leaning on the word - the written word of God:
Salvation by my Saviour's name - salvation thru His blood.
I need no other argument, I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

My great Physician heals the sick, the lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed, for me His life He gave.
I need no other argument, I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

This is what I believe: I am a great sinner, and Christ is a great Saviour.  I go to heaven not on my own merit, but on the merit of another.
